Welcome to the European summit of local and regional communities for sharing a common vision for a smarter tomorrow!

The European Regions for Smart Communities summit, under Portuguese Presidency of European Union, will be held in Évora (Alentejo, Portugal) and online, between 3 and 9 of May, 2021. Due to the current situation of Covid-19 pandemic and national health restrictions, this European Regions for Smart Communities Summit will be held partly online and partly in the city of Évora. The flexibility of the modality will enable us to make the best out of the situation and full access to the event will be provided virtually.

This Summit is the celebration of the success and achievements across Smart Communities and a opportunity for mutually commit to cooperation. It will gather local and regional leaders from across Europe to discuss how to involve the citizens and stakeholders in co-promoting smarter small cities, towns, villages and regions for a better tomorrow. Portugal, as a current holder of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, is committed to play positive and flexible role to promote cooperation and achieve tangible results in economic recovery and lead the European Union out of the crisis.



This Summit is welcoming:

  • Members of local, regional or urban public authorities

The Summit will host: Mayors, Regional Presidents as well as other elected politicians from across Europe who will show best practices on how to involve citizens more effectively, with the support of local and regional authorities. It will be followed by technical and thematic sessions, projects meeting and networking, artistic performances, social/cultural time, visits in the Alentejo Region and at the end of the week by celebrating the Day of Europe.

The Summit is organised by the H2020-AURORAL project led by CCDR Alentejo, with the support from Alentejo Europe Initiative, Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC), ADRAL - Regional Development Agency of Alentejo and IrRADIARE Science for Evolution.

At the Summit some sessions will take place at Espinheiro Convent Hotel, located in Évora.

The Convent of Nossa Senhora do Espinheiro is an old monastery of the Order of São Jerónimo that is located on the outskirts of the Canaviais neighbourhood, two kilometers from the historic center of the city and Évora District, in Portugal. It is a convent that dates back to the 15th century, nowadays re-qualified as a luxury hotel. It is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.


HOW TO GET THERE

[From Lisbon to Évora]

By car

If you decide to come to Summit of Regions by car, please follow Bridge Vasco da Gama into A2 Highway. Then, take the exit towards A6 [exit nº7 - ESPANHA - ÉVORA SANTARÉM]. Keep driving in A6 Highway until you find the exit nº6 [ÉVORA].

The trip takes 1h30 minutes.

By train

Services to Évora depart from Lisbon’s Sete Rios Train Station, which is served next by the Jardim Zoológico Metro Station (Blue Metro Line). Train service that goes from Lisbon to Évora is operated by Comboios de Portugal (CP), the national train company of Portugal.

When you arrive to Évora by train, there are taxis right outside the station. The event’s place is located 10 minutes by car.

By bus

Services to Évora depart from Lisbon’s Sete Rios Bus Station, which is served next by the Jardim Zoológico Metro Station (Blue Metro Line). Sete Rios is the main hub for Rede Expressos buses and is a busy bus station with frequent arrivals and departures. In the link below, can find the Rede Expressos schedules for departures to Évora, which normally operate from 07:00 to 22:30.
